week 5

post a-In this section of the book bridgete keeps up her insecive flirting with her boss danile. After the holdiay season british feels remorce about the food she has consumed at una alconburys curry fest. when valentines day rolls around bridget is worried that she will have no valentine, when suddenly a mysterious card appears at her aparments. for afew days she waits to see if the prissy lady next door claims it. when she opens it she see it was from danile. oh i forgot to mention they went on aDATe yes. and they ehhem. so bridget is pleased with that. i think that would be sooo awkward, i menai ts he rbossbut hey if it makes you happy. also her parents are having conflict, when bridgete sees her mom at the mall with a mysterious young we man she decides to investigate. she talks to both her parents separatley and then meets with both of them and figures out that her mom is skanking it up all over the place! how rude. so basicaly this section wraps it up wityh danile and bridget having a fling and her parents in shambles.

post b- culturaly im finding a few differnes, in the way the text is writen. They say mother and father where as americans usualy say mom or dad or call their parents by there plutonic names. They usualy start sentences with a noun or verb went to the store, or tea part was nightmare. stuff like that. a lot of sentences start with just can. also they say bloddy, or awful whereas americans would say something sucked. Brim is another word for think. sentences also avoid say I so am so great is very exceptable

week 3 posts

I switched books. Now my world culturally inclusive outside reading choice is Bridgette Jones Diary about a 30 something in London working in the publishing biz. In this first part of the book we see distinct differences from British culture and Americans. Firstly the language is different- cigarettes are called fags, very can be said as bloody, and ite/ate is added on to words to make them adjectives. In British culture it seems that women are expected to be married by the time they are in their thirties where as in America it is perfectly normal for a business women to be single up into her forties or beyond. Also it seems that their may be a different attitude in the work place. The bosses (the ugly p name) seem to run a tighter shift where as American bosses are more flexible. On the contrary Bridgette’s flirty relationship with her boss Daniel in this section of the book, would be a huge scandal in an American corporation

I am really really enjoying this book. I decided that the kite runner was not very good. It was bland and I didn’t really enjoy the writing style. I however adore this book already( im only on page 40!) I love books that are first person and in a diary format, it helps you to jump into the characters life and get inside their head. I’ve seen the movie and I thought they were bloody hilarious. ( hah bloody brit joke) Instantly were able to relate to her feelings about the holiday season and the weight you put on. Who hasn’t been there. I also really like how she begins each entry-her weight, her alcohol consumption, how many cigarettes she’s had and her overall calories. Later on like on page l36 she starts saying how many positive and negative thoughts she’s had. Its also funny because she is so blunt and her family and events are just hilarious so far this book is great

fictional characters

The first character i read about was Dora the Explorer. Dora was created by nickoldoeon to showcase a strong pan latina girl having adventures and learning while embracing her spanish heritage. This character is important to our culture because latino kids need to know that they are special and having dora represent them does just that. This character is not very importan t but she is super cute and she has the most adorable monkey pal- Boots!

The second character i read about was southpark's Cartman. Cartman is important to society because he says what ever comes to his mind alot of time it is what is on the american mind but we do not want to say. In times like these hard times in the world, having a person like Eric Cartman to laugh at is something very special.

Hello Kitty is the most important character in our society. In hard times seeing a cute cat in a red jumper and red bow makes everyone smile. Hello Kitty has exstensive clothing, jewlery, movie and other lines. She is is more than a brand name.shes and empire. Hello kitty is the cutest and best character. you can wear and love hello kitty at any age. Hello Kitty originaly came from asia and was and still is extremely popular there today.

post a- in this section of the book our main character-Amir discusses his enjoyment of flying kites and how when winter time came about he was very excited to do that. a good quote came on page 54. "Kind of like when we used to play insect torture .Except now he was the ant and i was holding the maginfying glass." this is a unique change and we can finaly see their differences. we had seen the differnce socialy and economily between the friends but now we finaly see that this may be interupting their play time.

post b- reflection. this week im going to write a haiku

creative writing

Why in childhood?
Kids need to be read books in childhood because that is the basics to learning how to read and write by being familiar with words and letters. showing pictres with stories helps kids to learn words. from the actual stories kids learn alphabet, colors, shapes, numbers and certain expectations for society. kids need to learn to use their imagination.

Why later in life?
People read after high school if they are going to college or further studies. also in
jobs such as publishing or education you are required to read novels, picture books and short stories. people around my parents age (40s-50s) read books for self help and to get smarter. I know from experience that its good to read and keep your brain later in life. My grandmother has alzhiemers and when she began old age she stopped reading as much as she had before and that may have postponed her alzheimers.

Why in OUR nation?
In our nation literature is highly regarded. there are many highly prized american book awards given out each year. Kids in elementary are taught to read and already beging writing small pargraphs by the first grade. This nation wants nothign more but to haave strong learners who can read and write strongly. In this time in our nation writing (more than ever) lets citizens express their feelings without limits.

MY stories
When i was young some favorite stories of mine included- the little fur people, courdoroy, where the wild things are, goodnight moon, and pat the bunny. The little fur people makes me think of my mom. she used to read it to me a lot before i went to bed. it's a small book thats covered in grey fur and its about little people that look like bears. Pat the bunny was another touch and feel book. you would feel the dads beared, look in a mirror, and the pat the bunnys furry tummy. these books all remind me of my mom because she always read me books .

Characteristics of a GREAT story:
1) it should have pictures- if its a text book or something wordy. if its an adult novel that just means the writing is not as descriptive as it could be. if it has pictures.
2)an overal theme thats relateable
3) a moral or a lesson
4) drama/ conflicts that make the story believeable
5) relateable charactres
6)funny comic relief
7) a romantic interest will keep anyone interested in the story.

i really enjoyed the firts part of the Kite Runner. it has a really unique presepective right now. Amir seems so curious, young and cute! i think he might be gay? not quite sure though. Hassan sounds nice but i think he will get angry when he gets older, i think he may have resentment from childhood and may have learned differnt things in the shi'a culture.

cultural commentary
In the first few Cchapters of Kite Runner, we learn about the life of the Narrator and his friend hassan. They are living in afghanistan The narrator is privilged and his friend Hassan. His friend hassan is not very priviliged- his mom ran off with gypsies when he was just an infant. WE see the struggles in afghanastan early on when Hassan and Amir are walking down a stree. Two white army men approach them making fun of Amir and Hasan- for his nose. They stopp teasing Amir when they know that his dad is a rich man. WE see these and more cultural differneces.

The end of the book was so amazing. It really shows how if you have faith and passion huge things can be acomplished. Cup's boss helps her to go to rehab. Its an amazing experience for her and she becomes sober. She also learns to take the blame whihc she had always placed on someone else throughout the book. She also got a great sponsor named venita who lived the same lifestyle that cup had onced lived. shed sold rental furniture, eaten top ramen and had no electricity because they smoked that money up. She couldnt have been happier. I really likes this book alot. I like because its gritty in details of her life that you dont want to hear. But her struggle to survive keeps you interested the whole time. Your hoping for her to make it but at certain areas of the book it seems as if there is no hope in sight and you wonder what will happen. its great to see her success and making through law school and where she is today. good jobQ

Vocabulary

Withdrawl's: (p.345)Discontinuation of the use of an addictive substance.

Sedative: (p.347)a sedative drug or agent.

"My heart was pounding a mile a minute." (p.345) this is an example of personification. Hearts are organs in the human body. They don not have legs and its ridiculous to say that they could run that fast. Its showing how nervous and jittery/ excited she is.

"It's thick brown branches stretched out over the garden like a maze suspended in air [...]" (p.349) This is an example of a metaphor. Its using like to compare brown branches to a garden maze. They are two unlike things.

"She was smiling like a kid in a f@#$%^&* candy store." (p.352) This is a metaphor because its comparing to unlike things a smile to a child in a candy store. Its very cliche but always is a fun one.

This is the last line of the book and really shows the overal ending theme of redemption and hope- (p.460) "They think im outstanding? They think i have character? Dont they know who i am?

The quiet voice responded.
Of course they do."
He was born in the suburbs.
His mom was a teacher and his dad was a lawyer.
They always expected the best.
Too bad for them, they had randy.
He was a bad kid, at the age of eleven he had his first drink. at the age of thirteen he had his first ciggarete. and at the age of thirteen and a half he tried weed and that opened up the gates of hell.
His parents Eric and Diane had done everything to raise him well, but he was a bad seed.
It didnt help that his best friend, Ron Beasley, encouraged the behavior. They first sent him to treatment when he was fourteen. He ran away. They sent him again when he was fifteen and a half. He had Ron sneak him in narcotics.

Now he was a senior at George Washington high school.
The SATs next weekend, his father said.
Yeah i know, i bought a review book.
you havent opened it once.
In his mind he saw it-on the basement floor, next to the bar, alcohol spilled on it after a night of hard partying.
What would his parents say if they new he and ron had thrown a party the night of his grandma’s 85th birthday?

There was no way he’d pass his SAT. absolutely no way.
That night he picked up ron.
There’s no way im going to pass my SAT.
And do you honetly think i will? We’ve been hanging out since 6th grade and have always been drowning at the C level.
We’ve got to pass-ASU is our dream school, dude.
Well, what are our options?
Randy pondered.
Well we could study together.
no.
We could hire tutors.
Only in they’re hot. so no.
Or we could steal the awnsers.
Now your talking!!

That night they went back to randy’s basement and plotted the scheme.
He grabbed two beers out of his bar fridge.
Your parents are oblivious. Seriously.
Ha, i know. They know im a bad kid, i think they ve given up. But if i get into asu, they’d be so happy. They’d know im not just a screw up.
Ok focus. Ms Roberts is one of the facilitators of the SAT, i know shes on the board for it. Im pretty sure that i once saw her putting a folder labeled SAT in her lower desk drawre.
Wow Ron, you would remember that, creep. You have a crush on Robert’s!
Shut up jerk off. i’m pretty sure that the janitors leave door seven open on the weekends. all we have to do is wait until everyone is gone this friday night, sneak in, get the test and pass with flying colors this saturday!
And how are you sure that no teachers will be there?
If there are teachers there will just say were going to robotics club meeting.
haha. likely story.
Alright go home , rest up.
I cant drive.
Dose it look like i can.

My idols life story

Before I got my pony, I was a loser. I wasn’t even on the cheerleading team when I was twelve. None of the kids wanted to hang out with me. They were too busy smoking pot behind the 7-11. I guess you could say I was kinda a nerd. I read science fiction and pretended that I was in it. I made realistic space shuttles and would have my dad shake them furiously to get the feel of take off. I would be winded and exhausted. My mom would make me a tuna fish sandwich without the tuna. When I was twelve I colored in pokemon coloring books. I didn’t color in the lines. Pikachu was my favorite. I was the biggest pokemon dealer on the block. All the kids came to me to get their fix. Sixth grade was rough for me. My Pokemon career helped but it couldn’t hide my pain. One day after a boy had thrown a ham sandwich at me, I went home and sat in my spaceship and picked the ham out of my hair. My mom knocked on the side. “Aggie, can you come out of there please?” I replied by growling like a beast. “Well just look at this...” her voice faded away as a pink paper fell into my world. CHEER TRYOUTS Well I guess it wouldn’t hurt. Suddenly a cow boy galloped up to the house. “Neeeeigh” said the cowboy. “Hi daddy.” “Whets that you’re riding?” “Well it’s a pony, Ag.” “Oh, it looks like a big dog.” “It’s for you!” “Um ok?”
The next day she rode her pony to school. All the kids crowded around Aggie! “You are so popular!” they shouted. Aggie grinned. She was hot stuff. That day Aggie tried out for the cheer team. She got captain! Apparently she had a hidden cheer talent. Who knew!

in this large part of the book alot of changes happen. It starts with cup and her half sister moving in together. Cups half sister has a son named jonathan hes about 4. The new moms think theyre doing a great job. yeah there are tons of party, booze, drugs and man all over the place, but they take care of things. Not so much. The apartment which was crappy to begin with, is now completely trashed. Heineken bottles cover the walls and the apartment is rat infested. After the failed move cup kicks kelly out of the house. A few weeks later shes at the club gerttig her drank and her dance on. a tall handsom black man approaches her and they spend the whole night dancing and talking. That night he gose home with cup. They next morning cup awakens thinking the mysterious male will be gone. Nope. Hes sitting in her living room wathcing tv. He had been waiting to go out to breakfast. how ador. They fall in luuuuuurve.

thwart- (p.195) –verb (used with object)
1. to oppose successfully; prevent from accomplishing a purpose.

Balked (310) v. intr.
To stop short and refuse to go on: The horse balked at the jump.
To refuse obstinately or abruptly: She balked at the very idea of compromise

[...] "My Heroin use had skyrocketed." (p.196) This is an example of personification. She takes an adiction to heroin and compares it to something flying off into the sky. Its simple but still a metaphor.

"I felt like i had found a long lost relative." (p. 197) This is an example of a simlie because it compares finding a new friend to finding a long lost relative.

"[...] dirty white curtains stung like hell." This is an example of a similie and personification. Its a similie because they stunk LIKE hell. Its personification because curtains cant sting you.

"i fell in love with tommy because he never tried to change me." (p.203) I like this quote because its really cute. I loved cup and tommy together.

an emerging theme is love and new begginings.

poem

Summer

The leaves are changing
Plants are dying
School is about to start again
But when I look back on my summer
I remember how fun it has been

Watching movies and staying up late
Going to parties and looking great
Hanging out with friends
And playing outside
Watching my aunt become a bride

How I’ll miss the summer
And getting away from my brother
Riding my pony
Turning 13
And making the cheerleading team

Oh how I’ll miss the summer
With all its joy and fun
Hanging out with friends
And lapping in the Sun.

Kathryn Kwasny

2)I like this poem because it was writen by a young girl discussing her summer and how it would be missed. It was descriptive yet simple.

3)The title is summer. It relates to the poem because the poem is all about this young girls experience with summer.

4)The girl uses repetion and consonance. She repeats oh how i will miss the summer twice to emphassize how much she will miss it. She also uses consonance at the end of lines.

5)The tone of the poem is refelctive but happy. She created this by using a reflected past tense also describing the summer- "watching my aunt become a bride" made me think of a beautiful summer wedding outdoors.

Later after getting hurt in a gang fight cup is sent to the hospital where they give her the unfortunate news that shes going back to live with diane. grr. we thoight things were looking up! Cup and Sly are very upset. Throuhg the years of living togtehre they have become more than cousins.

writing territories

I have an issue with the school librarian. She constantly harasses me and is very rude. On the coldest day of winter, i went to the library to register for classes. I had brought a blanket in from the car. The librarian looked at me with a stare that meant business. i shrudderd scared that she would strike me with a book. Instead she said "Why are you wearing that?" "I am cold! Its so cold outside." I replied. She looked at me and glared as she walked away. The next day we went and blogged with Mr. Miles. I had a water bottle in the lab and apparenly theres a rule against this. Un beknowst to me i was guzzling it when the librarian came and snatched it away from me. Right next to me, Annie, was drinking sher water in a frenzy. BUt the librarian didnt snap at her! Oh NO! she just snnaped at me. Now everytime i come in the library the librarian scolds at me. Im on her bad list.

creative writing

I am a creative writer. I like to write creative things. Poems and short stories are fun things to write. I think that writing thesis are not fun at all. Writing that is done for school is usualy not fun for me. Essays and writing for classes like math make me want to die. I like to read magazines and novels or memoirs that are interting or relevant to my life. Memoirs with people who have a dramatic story appeal more than one about a politician. I really liked books such as- "A Child Called It", "Wasted" and "A Piece of Cake". These books are all memoirs about peopl who go through tragic events but overcome them. For example "A Child Called It" is about a man who was abused as a child horrificly but somehow he surrvived. I dont really write when i dont have a school assignment. i txt and email people. I also use facebook to communicate with people. Ocassionaly i will write a letter maybe to my grandma. Older people seem to like getting letters.

Vocab-
Imperceptible- (p.59)
very slight, gradual, or subtle: the imperceptible slope of the road.

Intermittently- (p.83)
stopping or ceasing for a time; alternately ceasing and beginning again: an intermittent pain.

“These trash can Burgers are like steak!” (p.76) This is an example of a metaphor because it is using like or as to compare 2 unlikely things- a trashcan burger that someone has eaten to steak a fine food.

“She punched me so hard I began to tremble like an earthquake.” (54) This is an example of a metaphor because they are comparing a punch to an earthquake.

An emerging theme in this book is independence.

In this section of the book Cupcake runs away many times but is usually retutned to the care of Lovely Diane. On one ocassion Cupcake is brought to a new family- The Bassinets. Mrs. Bassinet is similar to Diane by the way that they are both neat freaks. Mrs Basinet howver is verbally and not physically abusive. At the Bassinets home Cupcake wants to become a cheerleader=). Mrs Bassinet says NO WAY, but quiet Mr Bassinet agrees to it and says he will drive cup to practice every week. Cupcake is so exciting. Maybe she will have a chance of normalcy. Nope. ‘cheerleading practice’ turns into molestation along with taking LSD in the back or Mr Bassinets bright yellow van. Some how MRS Bassinet finds out and says that they need to get that slut out of the house. Mr Bassinet who had defended Cup in the past did nothing. So she goes back hill crest. They send her back to dianes. Diane starts whipping her. One day when cup had returned to 6th grade, the nurse gave her a checkup. She saw all the whip marks and was shocked that she had gotten these from her foster mother. So when they send her back to dianes she runs away. This time she goes to Los Angeles. Where she finds the hard partying lifestyle fun. She meets a 25 year old names tim. Cup falls in love with him because he doesn’t just want her for a one night stand. He takes care of her and supplies her whenever he needs it. She thinks its destiny. Untill he gets arrested.

creativ writing

1) I found that writing the play was really fun and enjoyable. Ive never writen a play or read a lot of them outside of school. Wathcing the video clips in class and writing the play and group work broaden my horizons. I may even want to read a play outside of school. I had trouble with the play because i wanted to add all sorts of background information in and that is hard ebcause you cant have the author speaking the background info.

2)The advice i would give to a younger kid would be to be tough. In this day and age people have got to be tough. If you arent tough people will take your jobs away, your oppurtunity and just push you around. Also kids should learn to be themseleves. It will make your life 100% more better. not being your self will lead to all sorts of bad things such as drugs and bad thoughts. Youngsters need to respect people. A lot of younger kids- such as the kids i nanny, are always serving adittude. Kids need to stop this before it gets out of hand and someone punches them.

3)For a great piece of writing to last hundereds of years and still be popular, it must be a great piece of writing to read. It has to be relateable. An example would be romeo and juliet. Some of the ideas would not be used-marrying off your children at 14, but ideas of love at first sight and doing anything for love, are still ideas that people today love to read or watch. A 1000 page book about how to churn butter made in the 1400s maybe exciting to others but not to me! I dont really see my play being one that is around for ages. I dont think its that special or unique so it probably will not become popular.

In this part of the book cup cake nad her brother larry go into a foster care with an evil evil women. The evil woman has a really bratty daughter who tells the foster kids the rules and that she is the real kid and they are not. The foster mom lays down the ground rules by explaining to the larry and cupcake that there are designated places for them in the house and places that they can absolutely never go into unless the social woker is over. That would be her prized living room. The foster mom also has a nephew name pete. Pete is pretty attractive. pete gives cup her first taste of alchohol. she loves it. that same day he tells her to meet him in the bathroom. she does thinking she would get more alchohol. instead of that pleasent suprise she gets raped. she is so scared she doesnt know what to do. the next day pete doesnt even look at her. so she decides to run away. when she gets to a new town she meets candy- a prostittue and she takes her in. she teaches her how to be a hooker and she makes mmoney that night. Candy takes cupcake back to her pimps place. He seems like a nice guy who takes care of people. but then he goes and messes around with candy, this makes cup feel awkward. so she leaves.

"Momma stod there for what seemed like forever, althoughh it was really only a moment, paint dripping off her clothes like icicles off a tree." (p.5) This is an example of a similie because its comparing the paint dripping off of momma to an icicle melting off of a tree.

"I had big chubby cheeks that made my face look like a little roun' pumpkin{...}" (p.7) This is an example of a similie because its comparing her chubby cheeks to a pumpkin.

'He took off out of the court parking lotlike he was rushing to a fire[...]" (p.21) This is an example of a similie because its comparing Mr. Burn's driving out of the court pasrking lot compared to a fire truck speeding to get to a fire.

Quote-
"He wanted to pay child support and he wanted to be able to see his kids." (p.17) this is a significant quote because it shows how devoted he was at being a dad. This last more in the book. He wants to do these things whihc alot of dads would not want.

Theme-
A theme i see emerging is stuggling.

play i will creat

A theme i would want in my play is good vs. evil. I woul dwant a really really evil person and a ver y good person. The good person would have cute hair and wear nice clothes with blushed cheeks. The evil person would wear a lot of black and have a scary mustache and greasy black hair. They would be very pasty and have messed up teeth that are probably pointy. hes missing an ear. He lives in a nasty masion frm the 14th century with bats and theres always lightnigh. The good person lives in a pink and yellow cottage on a sunny green hill. Theres always a hot pie cooling in the window. They have an herb garden and wear glasses. they wear aprons and have nice curly hair. The theme in my play will be a good and evil contrast.

The conflict is that the evil person is always coming down the mountain to the house of the nice lady. since hes a lonely evil person he doesnt have alot of friends or food. He sees her nice pies cooling in her window. He hears them calling out his name and he neds to eat it. She always takes a nap at 2:37 so thats when he goes and steals her pie. This is how he lives. Everyday she bakes her pie and everyday he eats it. she does not know where it goes but it makes her upset that someone woul take from such a kind heart. When she finds out who did it she says- "you shouldve asked and said you liked it!" then she invites him to bake the pies with her and they eat together eventualy he moves off the cliff and down next to her cottage and continue to bake their pie...of love =)

creative wrting

1. How important is theme in what you write? Does a great piece of literature need to express an idea? Explain your thoughts on the matter using examples from things you've read. In your response, address the opposing viewpoint. (Write at least 100 words.) The theme is very important in any kind of wrting you write. If theres no theme how could you pick the adjectives you use to in your writing. you would have no central idea in your writng and it wouldbe loose ideas strung together by non important information and vauge adjectives. A great piece of literature needs to express and idea because it needs purpose to be relevant. If there were to be a piece of literature with no theme or idea its weak and boring for the reader. The reader would like to know a theme or idea to make them more interested in the novel.

2. What might be a theme that you'd consider communicating through your play. It could be a theme about something that concerns you (think back to what you wrote in your first blog), a theme about something you see socially or politically. It could be a theme about anything else. Write about that theme and why it is important to you? (Write at least 100 words).
The theme in our play is self rightousness. The queen is very good looking and she feels that she is superior and everyoneshould love her. Well this works against her when the moon person decides to turn herinto a frog and send her to live her eternity as a frog on the mooon. A play like this will teach people to be humble and not think they are the best people should think highly of themselves but too much is a problem.

3. What is one conflict you write about in your play. Generate some ideas for conflicts you could write about. This may or may not be connected to potential themes. (Write at least 75 words)
The prince loves the girl but he girl does not notice him so he views from a far. This is a conflict becuse he wants her but she doesnt even know he exsist. and when he does show his affections the girl gives him the cold shoulder and blows him off because she's "so hot". Karma bits her in the butt when the queen learns of her mean actions she sends her to the moon to live her life as a frog.

soundtrack-the odyssey

The song i chose was to describe Penelope. Penelope is Odyseus's love interest, and since he is away on his adventure Penelope most likely misses him like mad. The song i chose takes us back to the 90s and the A*Teens. Its called Half Way Around The World. This song inspired me because odysseus is quite far away and Penelope still loves him as quoted in the song- "half way round the world..that wont stop me from loving you..half way round the world...still be feeling the way i do and i wanna hold you baby cuz im gonna miss you like crazy even if your half way round the world." (A*Teens) A*Teens were a personal favorite of mine back in the day. I hope you enjoy hearing it.

an art that inspired me...

art that inspired me was when i was at the Getty Museum in LA. It was a really nice warm day and we were at the museum. At first i was really bored it was quite dull but then we saw some really pretty antique art. it was old and looked like a photograph it was so realistic. you could not see any of the brush marks and i was shocked that they had made this before the days of cameras and computers, I saw a famous painting of a woman with a nice unibrow. i dont remember who she was but i know she was famous! I saw lots of other art like that in that style. The portraits of people were very inspiring due to the fact that they showed all sorts of emotion and told the story of the people of the time.

reading to a writer-creative writing

Why is reading so crucial for a writer? Whenever I've heard writers speak--be it playwrights, novelists, or poets--they talk about the importance of reading. In Pat Conroy's memoir My Losing Season, in fact, he goes into great depth about the books he was devouring at that point in his life and what they meant to him.

So, talk about the role of reading to the writer and why it is important. If you disagree, then explain why you think OTHERS think it is important. Write at least 100 words.

2. What is something you see in your world that concerns you? This could be something among your peer group, something you see in America, or something you see in the world. What is your interpretation of this topic, and why do you feel that way? Write at least 75 words about it.

3. What is one piece of art (painting, movie, book, song, whatever) that has greatly inspired you? What is that piece and what about it has inspired you? Explain in detail. Write at least 100 words.

1)Reading is a crucial thing from a writer to posses because without reading how could you know how things you write sound or flow. reading helps to see the styles of other authors and then you learn how to create a style of your own. When you know how to read the writing comes natuarlay when you have lots of ideas from pieces of literature youve read. Reading books makes you more well rounded and more educated. You could also read books that help you to write. Books like the Hacker Manual make writing a lot easier and better.

2)Im concerned about gas prices. Gas prices are very high and no one likes it. Especialy when you are not making a lot of money such as a young high school student working as nanny. Its hard to have enough money for the all of the things you want to do. Especaily during dance times like sweethearts when most of your money is going towards that. They should figure out how to make gas cheaper.

vocab-
swoony (134)- n/a could not find meaning.
wonderment(138)-Noun. wondering or a wonder.

"That steams from groundhogs making coffee." (129) This is an example of personification because it takes an action that humans do, and lets groundhogs do it to create a thing of nature. I think this use of personification works because it still uses that cheesey style of southern-ish talking that has run through the entire book.

"Tears burned my eyes like i was peeling ramps.: (119) This is an example of a metaphor because it uses like to compare to things. In this case the two things being compared are similar but are not ocurring. She is crying so hard with burning sensation of peeling onions.

"The cries mingled with a rush of wingbeats, like a host of angels." This is an example of a meataphor beauce is compairng to differnet things in this case it is comparing the sad noises she is hearing to the rush of angles wings flapping about. This methaphor is nice for two reasons. One because it gives us a little spurt of spirituality and the other it uses the word mingled and thats a great verb.

""If we all touch hands we can get this done'" (170) I like this quote a lot and heres why.
1)I strongly believe in team work
2) I loved that dad in the story even though he was dead
3) he makes more sense then gpaps
